Are White Ash (American Ash) trees disappearing from your neighborhood? The invasive emerald ash borer (EAB) is most likely the cause. The EAB is a green buprestid or jewel beetle native to north-eastern Asia that feeds on ash species. Females lay eggs in bark crevices on ash trees, and larvae feed underneath the bark of ash trees to emerge as adults in one to two years having killed the tree.

We have salvaged a number of these urban trees killed by the EAB. The EAB only feeds on the inner cambium bark layer (growing layer) leaving the sapwood and heartwood untouched. With our onsite Woodmizer sawmill we have produced some beautiful hardwood lumber. The white ash sapwood is a bright white wood with the inner heartwood a darker color much like Black Walnut.

We are currently milling White Ash picture frames 1 ¼” wide and 1” deep with a ¾” x ¼” rabbit. Most any width & height custom picture frame is available. The frames are precision miter cut and joined with wood glue and several v-nail fasteners. A professional Cat-Lacquer Matt finish is applied to the front and back of each frame. Glass and backing matt board optional.
